GoFundMe Page Launched for Chinese Exchange Student Slashed in Face

Last month, a 16-year-old Chinese exchange student who came to the U.S. to pursue the American dream was slashed in the face while walking to school in Queens, NY. JiaJia Liang was on her way to school when an assailant in surgical mask and gloves approached her with a box cutter and slashed her twice in the face. One laceration was cut from her ear to her throat.

Since Liang has only been in the U.S. for a few months, she is unable to obtain any financial assistance for her medical bills. It is estimated that it will take a full year before Liang will recover. She will also need plastic surgery.

The office of New York assemblyman Ron Kim has recently set up a GoFundMe page to help defray her medical bills.

“My wife and I recently had the opportunity to visit JiaJia. When we asked her if she wanted to return to her country she said, without hesitation, ‘No, I still want the Dream,'” Kim said on the GoFundMe page.
