In 1975, Meryl Streep went to audition for legendary film producer Dino De Laurentis. De Laurentis’ son brought Miss Streep in after seeing her in a play, and thought she could play the female heroine in the upcoming production of King Kong. Mr. De Laurentis said right in Miss Streep’s face in Italian, “Why did you bring in this ugly thing?” The photograph purportedly shows her winning face in the New York subway after an unsuccessful audition. Wouldn’t you say that’s the face of a real winner?
