My name is Quentin Lee, and I am Mahmoud Khalil.
I came to America to study at the University of California at Berkeley in 1988 where I participated in campus protests for LGBTQ+ equity, racial justice, the legalization of same sex marriage and marijuana. Without my protesting for these causes, we would not have gay marriage, legalization of marijuana, #metoo and #blacklivesmatter now.
Legal protest and descent is not only part of any democracy, but a tool of any democracy as a whole. Legal protest and descent help the people to communicate their collective dissatisfaction to their democratic government and initiate cultural and legal change.
In a democracy, like America, no one—regardless of their residency status—should be penalized for their legal protest and dissent.
Stand with Mahmoud Khalil. Free Mahmoud Khalil.
