Growing up in Hong Kong and Bangkok, I was brought up surrounded by Western culture. Christmas, although perceived as a Christian holiday, is widely celebrated, albeit non-religiously, in the two countries I came from. It’s always been a favorite holiday for me. Needless to say, now that I live in America and bringing up an American daughter, I go pretty crazy in December. Two years ago I went REALLY crazy.
One early December morning, an adorable elf by the name of Pixie did a jail break from the display box and showed up in all kinds of weird places for my 8-year-old to discover the next day. After a while, it got kind of creepy. I don’t think my daughter trusted Pixie very much. So on the morning of the 25th, my husband and I decided to “ask” Pixie to hold off on her visit for a few years. I personally know Pixie will return again. For now, Pixie is hanging out somewhere safe and peaceful. I just hope I will remember where that “somewhere” is when we are ready to invite her back…
